Terms of Service
Last updated: March 2026
Plain English first. Every section below opens with a plain summary before the formal language. We believe you should understand what you're agreeing to without needing a lawyer.
Scope & Legal Entities
The contracting entity for your region is Volta Lawn Intelligence Inc.
These terms apply to USA customers (all 50 states). For customers in Italy and other EU markets, localized terms apply and the contracting entity is Volta Mowers s.r.l.
These terms govern your use of Volta hardware (the Lawn Companion robotic mower), the Volta mobile application, the Lawn Digital Twin service, Lawn Chat, and any subscription plan (Basic, Ultra, Elite) purchased through volta.ai or authorized resellers.
By activating a Volta device or subscribing to any plan, you agree to these terms.
1. Hardware Ownership & Subscription Structure
Plain English: You are buying the robot — either monthly over 24 months or all at once upfront. Either way, it's yours after 24 months (or from day one if you prepay). The subscription fee after month 24 is optional and covers services only, not the hardware again.
1.1 Ownership Track (Months 1–24)
- Your monthly subscription fee covers both active service delivery and the cost of the hardware unit.
- Legal title to the hardware transfers to you upon completion of 24 consecutive monthly payments, or immediately upon receipt of a full prepay transaction.
- Volta Lawn Intelligence Inc. retains no ownership interest in the hardware after title transfer.
- All prices include shipping. No additional shipping charges apply at checkout.
1.2 Prepay Option
- Subscribers may elect to pay the full 24-month hardware amount in a single upfront transaction.
- Upon receipt and confirmation of this payment, hardware title transfers to the subscriber immediately — on the date of delivery activation, not after any waiting period.
- The prepay amount is identical to the total 24-month commitment. No discount or premium applies.
1.3 Post-Ownership Subscriptions (Month 25+)
Post-ownership subscriptions ($16/mo Basic, $59/mo Ultra, $99/mo Elite) are entirely optional service contracts.
- Cancellation of a post-ownership subscription does not affect hardware ownership. The robot will continue to operate in basic autonomous mowing mode without an active subscription.
- AI navigation, Lawn Chat, Lawn Digital Twin, and Infinite Care warranty coverage require an active post-ownership subscription.
2. Financing
Plain English: 0% APR financing through Affirm is available on all US plans. Volta does not charge more for financed orders. The financing agreement is between you and Affirm.
- Volta Lawn Intelligence Inc. partners with Affirm to offer 0% APR financing on all plans including the prepay option, available to eligible US customers.
- Volta does not charge a premium for financed orders — the total cost is identical to direct payment.
- The financing agreement is between the subscriber and Affirm. Affirm's eligibility criteria, terms, and privacy policy apply independently of these terms.
- Volta's hardware ownership and warranty terms are unaffected by the financing method chosen.
3. Infinite Care Warranty
Plain English: We replace your hardware if it breaks — including batteries and full units — at no extra cost, for as long as you stay subscribed on Ultra or Elite. This warranty covers the robot itself. It does not cover damage the robot may cause to property or people.
3.1 What Is Covered
Infinite Care is a hardware service warranty available exclusively to active Ultra and Elite subscribers (during both the ownership track and post-ownership periods). Coverage includes:
- Mechanical failures: Motors, drive systems, cutting mechanisms, wheels, and chassis components that fail under normal domestic use.
- Electronic failures: Logic boards, sensors, navigation systems, communication modules, and power management systems.
- Battery degradation: If battery capacity falls below the threshold required to complete your lawn's mapped coverage area, Volta will replace the battery unit at no charge.
- Full unit replacement: If a failure cannot be resolved through component replacement, Volta will ship a full replacement unit.
- Normal wear: Unlike most standard warranties, Infinite Care covers components that degrade through ordinary domestic use over time, not only sudden defects.
3.2 What Is Not Covered
Infinite Care is a hardware warranty. It is not a liability insurance policy. The following are explicitly excluded:
- Direct damages to property: Any damage caused by the Volta robot to lawns, gardens, landscaping features, fencing, structures, vehicles, or any other property.
- Personal injury: Any bodily harm caused to persons or animals as a result of contact with or proximity to the robot during operation.
- Consequential or indirect losses: Any financial loss, loss of use, loss of enjoyment, or other indirect consequence arising from device malfunction or failure.
- Intentional misuse or modification: Damage resulting from use outside the robot's intended operating parameters, unauthorized hardware modification, or deliberate misuse.
- Acts of nature: Damage from flooding, lightning, fire, or other force majeure events.
- Theft or loss: Infinite Care does not cover stolen or lost units.
3.3 Service Level Commitments
| Plan | Turnaround | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Ultra | Within 7 business days of confirmed fault diagnosis | Standard courier |
| Elite | Within 7 business days of confirmed fault diagnosis | Standard courier |
Volta will first attempt remote diagnosis and resolution via the app. If remote resolution is not possible, a replacement unit or components will be dispatched within the above timelines.
3.4 Claim Process
- Report the issue through the Volta app or at support@volta.ai.
- Volta support will attempt remote diagnosis within 1 business day.
- If remote resolution is not possible, a replacement will be dispatched automatically — no forms, no approvals required.
- The faulty unit must be returned using the prepaid return label included with the replacement shipment within 14 days.
3.5 Warranty Continuity
- Infinite Care coverage is continuous for as long as your Ultra or Elite subscription remains active.
- Coverage suspends immediately upon subscription cancellation and resumes upon reactivation.
- There is no lifetime cap on the number of replacements under Infinite Care.
4. Liability Limitations
Plain English: Volta is responsible for making the robot work. We are not an insurer. If the robot causes damage to your property or injures someone, that falls under your homeowner's or renter's insurance, not under Volta's warranty.
4.1 Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Volta Lawn Intelligence Inc.'s total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of Volta hardware or services shall not exceed the total amount paid by you to Volta in the 12 months preceding the claim.
4.2 Exclusion of Consequential Damages
Volta Lawn Intelligence Inc. shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, loss of data, loss of use, or property damage not directly caused by a confirmed manufacturing defect.
4.3 User Responsibility
The subscriber is responsible for:
- Ensuring the robot's operating area is clear of obstacles, people, and animals during initial setup and scheduled mowing runs.
- Defining accurate boundary maps through the Volta app to prevent the robot from operating in unintended areas.
- Securing the operating environment to prevent unauthorized access during mowing.
- Complying with local and state regulations regarding autonomous outdoor equipment.
5. Data & Privacy
Plain English: Your Lawn Digital Twin data belongs to you. We don't sell it. Our cameras face downward — they see grass, not people.
5.1 Lawn Digital Twin Data Ownership
All spatial mapping data generated by your Volta robot is owned by you, the subscriber. Volta stores this data solely to provide the Lawn Digital Twin and Lawn Chat services.
5.2 Camera Architecture & Privacy
Volta's vision system uses exclusively downward-facing cameras for turf analysis and navigation. The system is physically incapable of capturing images of people, structures, or neighboring properties. This is a hardware-level privacy protection, not a policy-based promise.
5.3 Data Retention on Cancellation
Upon subscription cancellation, your Lawn Digital Twin data is retained for 90 days to allow export. After 90 days, data is permanently deleted from Volta's servers. Volta does not transfer or sell subscriber data to third parties at any time.
6. Governing Law & Disputes
Plain English: These terms are governed by Delaware law. If we have a dispute we can't resolve directly, it goes to arbitration — not court.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict of law principles.
Any dispute arising from these terms that cannot be resolved through Volta's support process will be submitted to binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, except where prohibited by applicable law.
7. Changes to These Terms
Volta will notify subscribers of material changes to these terms via email and in-app notification at least 30 days before changes take effect. Continued use of Volta hardware or services after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
8. Contact
Warranty claims: support@volta.ai
