Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms

By purchasing, accessing, or using any product or service offered by Volta Lawn Intelligence Inc. ("Volta," "we," "us," or "our") — including the Lawn Companion™ hardware, the Lawn Intelligence™ AI platform, Lawn Chat™, and any associated mobile or web applications (collectively, the "Service") — you ("Customer," "you," or "your") agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms").

If you do not agree to these Terms in their entirety, you must not place an order or use the Service.


2. Nature of the Offering

2.1 Package, Not Subscription

Volta is sold as one of three packages — PRO, ULTRA, or ULTRA 2× — each bundling, at a single fixed price:

  1. The Lawn Companion™ hardware (one or two units, depending on the package), with charging base and accessories;
  2. 24 months of Lawn Intelligence™ AI service, activated at first power-on;
  3. A 2-year hardware warranty and, on ULTRA tiers, Infinite Care™ for the duration of the active service.

A Volta package is a complete bundle, not a recurring subscription. There is no monthly billing cycle that can be cancelled mid-term: the package price is the package price, payable in cash upfront or financed over 24 months.

2.2 Plan Tiers

The three tiers differ in coverage area, hardware count, and Lawn Intelligence™ feature set as published on volta.ai. Volta reserves the right to modify tier features for new orders with reasonable notice; existing orders retain the features and pricing applicable at the time of purchase for the duration of the 24-month plan.

2.3 Suitability Requirements

The Lawn Companion™ is designed to operate within published Suitability Requirements, including but not limited to: WiFi coverage at the charging base, lawn condition at handover (≤ 60 mm), the 3-meter base radius, slope, grass type, and obstacle density. These requirements are disclosed at volta.ai/suitability-requirements and are incorporated into these Terms by reference.

By completing checkout, you represent that your property meets the Suitability Requirements. Service performance and refund or replacement eligibility are evaluated against these requirements using Telemetry Data as the primary factual record (see Section 5).


3. Pricing and Payment

3.1 Package Price and Payment Options

The package price published on volta.ai is the total amount due. You may pay either:

  • In cash upfront at checkout, in which case no further charges apply for the duration of the 24-month plan; or
  • Financed over 24 months at 0% APR through one of Volta's authorized financing partners (currently Affirm, ShopPay, and PayPal). Billing schedules, interest terms, late-payment consequences, and early-termination remedies are governed by your agreement with the applicable financing partner. Volta is not party to those agreements.

Both payment paths deliver the same hardware, the same service, and the same warranty. The choice of payment path does not change the terms of the underlying package.

3.2 The 24-Month Plan

The 24-month plan begins at first power-on of the Lawn Companion™. During the 24-month plan, the bundled Lawn Intelligence™ service is active and Infinite Care™ coverage applies on ULTRA tiers.

3.3 After the 24-Month Plan

Upon completion of the 24-month plan, the customer's options are:

  1. Renew the Lawn Intelligence™ service at reduced rates: $16/mo (PRO tier), $39/mo (ULTRA tier), or $39/mo (ULTRA 2× — a single ULTRA service plan covering both robots);
  2. Switch to autonomous-only mode at $0/mo, retaining the hardware and basic mowing functions but losing AI features, app health insights, and OTA service updates.

No charges will be applied after the 24-month plan without your explicit opt-in. Renewal pricing is locked at the time you first opt in and may be adjusted with at least 30 days' written notice for subsequent renewal periods.

3.4 Failed Payments (Renewal Period Only)

If a payment for an active renewal period fails, Volta may suspend access to the Lawn Intelligence™ service until the payment is resolved. Continued non-payment results in termination of the renewal period; the hardware remains yours and continues to operate in autonomous-only mode.

Late or failed payments to a financing partner during the original 24-month plan are governed solely by your agreement with that financing partner.


4. Hardware — Lawn Companion™

4.1 Title and Ownership

Title to the Lawn Companion™ hardware passes to you upon delivery of the package. The hardware is yours from delivery, regardless of whether you paid in cash or financed the package over 24 months. The Infinite Care™ replacement program (Section 4.3) is a service obligation tied to the active Lawn Intelligence™ ULTRA plan and does not depend on title.

4.2 Care and Use

You agree to use the Lawn Companion™ only in accordance with its documentation and within the published Suitability Requirements. You are responsible for reasonable care of the device.

4.3 Hardware Replacement (Infinite Care™)

If the Lawn Companion™ arrives damaged or fails to function within the Suitability Requirements due to a manufacturing or software defect, Volta will replace or reship the unit at no additional cost. On ULTRA and ULTRA 2× packages, Infinite Care™ extends this coverage for as long as the Lawn Intelligence™ ULTRA service is active, with under-7-business-day replacement turnaround.

Hardware replacement is subject to the telemetry validation and dispute process described in Section 6.


5. Telemetry and Data

5.1 Operational Telemetry

Every Volta Lawn Companion™ continuously records operational telemetry as a normal part of operation, including but not limited to: mowing sessions, in-base outdoor time, connectivity status, WiFi signal quality, lawn-zone maps, error states, environmental sensor readings, and device health metrics (collectively, "Telemetry Data"). Telemetry Data is transmitted to Volta's servers and retained per the Privacy Policy.

5.2 Use of Telemetry Data

Telemetry Data is used to:

  • Operate and improve the Lawn Intelligence™ AI platform
  • Diagnose hardware and software issues
  • Validate service performance against the Suitability Requirements
  • Evaluate refund, replacement, and dispute claims (Section 6) and chargebacks (Section 7)
  • Generate the lawn health insights delivered through the Service

5.3 Telemetry as Ground Truth

In any dispute, refund request, replacement evaluation, or chargeback inquiry, Telemetry Data is the primary factual record. Volta's analysis of Telemetry Data is binding on the dispute evaluation process. Customer assertions unsupported by Telemetry Data do not independently constitute grounds for a refund or replacement.


6. No Try-and-Buy. Returns and Disputes

6.1 No Refunds for Buyer's Remorse

A Volta package is a firm purchase. Volta does not operate any free trial, satisfaction-guarantee window, money-back period, or conditional refund tied to lawn-quality outcomes. Refund eligibility is not based on "I changed my mind," "it's not what I expected," or "the lawn isn't perfect yet."

A package that has been delivered, set up, and used is a package whose service has begun. Hardware that has cut grass cannot be unsold; AI service that has run against your lawn cannot be ungenerated.

6.2 Mandatory Telemetry Validation

All refund, replacement, or return requests are subject to a mandatory review of Telemetry Data by Volta's technical team. No refund or return is processed before telemetry validation is complete.

6.3 Customer Cooperation Required

You agree to cooperate with Volta's support and remote-diagnostic process. Cooperation includes, at minimum:

  • Keeping the unit connected to the internet so engineers can run a remote diagnostic
  • Allowing telemetry transmission for the period required to evaluate the reported issue
  • Completing any guided steps requested by Support (re-positioning the base, verifying WiFi coverage, cleaning the camera lens, swapping blades, etc.) to rule out user-side causes

Failure to cooperate, refusal to allow telemetry transmission, or return of a unit without an RMA forfeits replacement eligibility.

6.4 Outcome Categories

Following telemetry validation and customer cooperation, requests are resolved according to the framework below:

6.5 Submission of Requests

All refund and return requests must be submitted in writing to support@volta.ai with your account email, order ID, Volta Machine ID, and a description of the issue. Requests without this information will not be processed.


7. Chargebacks and Payment Disputes

A chargeback or payment dispute initiated against an active Volta package — whether through a financing partner (Affirm, ShopPay, PayPal) or a card issuer — is treated as follows:

  • Volta will provide the financing partner or card issuer with the complete Telemetry Data record for the unit, the original Suitability Requirements acknowledgment timestamped at checkout, and the customer's full support history;
  • A device with a meaningful record of mowing sessions, in-base outdoor time, or completed setup is by definition a device that has delivered service, and the dispute will be contested on those grounds;
  • Customers who file a chargeback while continuing to operate the device are operating a service they are simultaneously refusing to pay for. Volta will pursue full collection of the disputed amount, suspend the Lawn Intelligence™ service, and, where applicable, refer the account for further recovery action.

Customers who believe their unit is genuinely defective should always contact Volta Support first. A defective unit is replaced under warranty (or Infinite Care™ on ULTRA tiers) — at no cost, with no friction. There is no scenario in which a chargeback produces a faster outcome than a support ticket.


8. Cancellation

Because a Volta package is a single fixed-price purchase (paid in cash or financed), there is no "cancellation" of a package per se — the package is delivered against payment. The 24-month installment plan with a financing partner can only be terminated according to that partner's terms, which Volta has no role in administering.

After the 24-month plan, an opted-in renewal of the Lawn Intelligence™ service may be cancelled at any time through your account dashboard or by emailing support@volta.ai. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current renewal billing cycle. The hardware remains yours; only the AI service ends.

Volta reserves the right to terminate the Lawn Intelligence™ service immediately for cause — including misuse of the hardware, violation of these Terms, non-payment of an active renewal, or fraudulent dispute activity. Termination of the service does not entitle you to a refund.


9. Intellectual Property

All technology, software, algorithms, trademarks, trade names, and content comprising the Volta Service — including Lawn Intelligence™, Drop&Mow®, Privacy by Physics™, Infinite Care™, Lawn Companion™, and Lawn Chat™ — are the exclusive property of Volta Lawn Intelligence Inc. and are protected by applicable US and international intellectual-property laws. Title to the hardware (Section 4.1) does not include any license to Volta's intellectual property beyond the limited right to use the Service for its intended purpose.


10. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by Volta's Privacy Policy, available at volta.ai/privacy-policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By placing an order, you consent to the collection, processing, and use of your data as described therein, including Telemetry Data as set forth in Section 5.


11. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Volta disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Volta does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any specific lawn outcome will be achieved. Lawn improvement is biological and dependent on factors outside the device; the Lawn Companion™ provides daily care and the lawn responds on its own timeline.

The foregoing does not limit the 2-year hardware warranty or the Infinite Care™ replacement framework set forth in these Terms.


12. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Volta's total liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the total amount paid by you for the applicable Volta package in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. In no event shall Volta be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.


13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Volta Lawn Intelligence Inc., its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your breach of these Terms; or (c) your violation of any applicable law or third-party right.


14. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States of America, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms shall be resolved by binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association (AAA), with proceedings conducted in English. The arbitration shall take place in Delaware unless otherwise agreed in writing. Nothing in this Section prevents either party from seeking emergency injunctive relief in a court of competent jurisdiction.


15. Changes to These Terms

Volta reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated to your registered email address at least 30 days before taking effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of revised Terms constitutes acceptance of the changes. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must discontinue use of the Service before the effective date.


16. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, the Suitability Requirements, the Shipping & Returns policy, and any tier-specific terms presented at checkout, constitute the entire agreement between you and Volta Lawn Intelligence Inc. with respect to the Volta Service and supersede all prior agreements, representations, and understandings.
